Reversals after you've been paid

Updated

View as Markdown

A reversal takes back exactly what a conversion paid you, dated on the day the conversion was earned, even when it arrives after you’ve been paid. If it has, a person on our team reviews the reversal before anything is deducted.

What a reversal takes back

  • The amount the conversion paid you. Not today’s price for the offer, and never more.
  • From the day it was earned. A reversal is dated on its conversion’s day, not on the day it arrives, so it lowers that day’s total.
  • Sometimes weeks later. The advertiser’s side can take a conversion back long after it reported it, and our traffic checks can reverse a user’s recent conversions when they reject that user. Why a conversion was reversed covers the reasons.

What you receive

WhereWhat you see
Your postback URLA postback with status=reversed, the same action_id as the credit and reason when one is recorded
ConversionsThe line with status reversed, its reason and “Reversed on” with the day it arrived
Download CSVThe same line, with Reason and Reversed On filled in
DashboardThe payout for the day the conversion was earned, lower by the amount reversed

Conversions lists a reversal as soon as it arrives. The dashboard’s total for an earlier day updates after our next scheduled rebuild, which runs several times a day.

If you’ve already been paid for it

Example: Pebble Rewards earns $4.20 on a Harbor Blocks install on September 28, and is paid for it. Weeks later, the advertiser’s side takes the install back.

  1. The reversal is dated September 28 and lowers that day’s total by $4.20.
  2. That money has already been paid, so the reversal goes to a person on our team for review.
  3. We either absorb it, and you keep the $4.20, or deduct it from earnings we haven’t paid you yet.

Take it back from your user

Your endpoint should take back what you credited when status=reversed arrives. The reversal repeats the user_payout its credit was sent with, when it can be matched to that credit. Dedupe on action_id and status together: deduping on action_id alone drops the reversal of a conversion you already credited.

If you run a network

Postbacks through the Network API send status=reversed the same way. Deduct the amount you credited for that conversion.
