Use your own tracking domain with a CNAME

Updated

View as Markdown

We can serve your tracking links on a subdomain you own, such as track.pebble.example. You add one DNS record pointing it at our click host; we check it, issue the HTTPS certificate and switch your links. Payouts and postbacks don’t change.

Before you start

  • A subdomain you control, such as track. or go. on your own domain. A bare domain like pebble.example can’t be used.
  • Someone who can add DNS records for it.

Steps

  1. Ask us for the record

Email us at hello@affiliateos.ai with the subdomain you want. We reply with the host to point it at. There’s no screen for this in your dashboard: our team sets it up.

  2. Add the CNAME

In your DNS, add a CNAME record from your subdomain to the host we sent. Example:

    TypeNamePoints to
CNAMEtrack.pebble.exampleThe click host we sent you

Don’t put a proxy or another redirect in front of it. Our check looks for the record pointing straight at us.

  3. We check and issue the certificate

Once the record resolves, we issue and install the certificate for your subdomain and check that HTTPS answers there. Until it’s live, our check shows which part isn’t ready yet, the DNS record or the certificate, and we tell you. We renew the certificate ourselves.

  4. Check it worked

Fetch your offer list with your API key and read trackingUrl. Links now start with https://track.pebble.example/click?, and the rest of each link is unchanged.

What switches, and what doesn’t

How your domain behaves

  • It serves your links only. A link with another publisher’s ID opened on your domain shows “This offer isn’t available for your account”.
  • It serves click pages only. Anything else on it, such as our API or dashboard, isn’t reachable there.
  • No AffiliateOS name on message pages. “This offer has ended” and the other messages after a click show on your domain without our name. The “Preparing your offer…” page, if your account shows it, keeps our name; ask us for the blank page instead.

If the record stops pointing at us

Links placed on your subdomain stop working while it doesn’t resolve to us: users see their browser’s “can’t be reached” page. Taps made before that still convert and pay.

We check every domain daily. After two failed checks in a row, your offer list goes back to links on our host, so new placements keep working. Fix the record and the next passing check switches your links back.
