What is a tracking link?

A tracking link is the URL a user taps to start an offer. It records the click on a tracking server, carries IDs that say who sent the user, then sends the user on to the advertiser's store page or site.

How it works

A user taps the link, and three things happen before they land anywhere. The tracking server records the tap and gives it a click ID. It checks whether this user can run the offer. Then it redirects the user to the store page or site, passing the click ID along so a later conversion can be matched.

Example: this is a link Pebble Rewards could show player u_48213.

https://go.pebble.example/click?off_id=aff_4b20c7e19a3d&sub_id=u_48213

off_id names the offer, and sub_id carries the player’s ID. When the player installs Harbor Blocks, the conversion is credited to Pebble Rewards, and the player’s ID comes back on the postback.

  • Who sent it. Fixed IDs for the publisher, which you never change.
  • Your user. A sub ID you fill in for each user.
  • Your own labels. Extra values, such as a placement or a campaign, that come back to you.

Fill in your user’s ID every time you show the link. One shared value, or a placeholder left unfilled, means nobody can tell whom to credit.

On AffiliateOS

Every offer comes with a trackingUrl that already credits your account. Replace {SUB_ID} with your user’s ID and leave partner_id as it is: Build a tracking link. You can add up to ten values of your own, and we check every tap before the advertiser sees it: Click Tracking. We can also serve your links on a subdomain you own.
